JEE Main syllabus by subject

The chapter and topic map below has 79 chapters and 738 topics. Open a subject for every chapter and its topics.

How to prepare for JEE Main

  • Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry carry equal weight, so a weak subject costs as much as a strong one earns.
  • Numerical-value questions have no options to guess from; practise them separately and keep a note of the units you slip on.
  • Because wrong answers lose marks, accuracy matters as much as speed. Review which questions you attempted and got wrong, not only the ones you skipped.

JEE Main practice on Classphere

Classphere is the test platform coaching institutes run under their own name. Students practise JEE Main through their institute, and every test they take is analysed on the same chapter map as this page.

  • Chapter-wise practice sets and full-length mock tests, taken in practice mode or as a timed attempt
  • Instant analysis after every test: where marks went, accuracy by chapter, time per question and the kind of mistake behind each wrong answer
  • A 7-day study plan built from that test's weak topics, ending in a revision test on the same chapters
  • Batch and student reports for teachers and institute owners, under the institute's own name and logo

JEE Main frequently asked questions

How many subjects are there in JEE Main?

Three: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with equal weight in the B.E./B.Tech paper.

Does JEE Main have negative marking?

Yes. A correct answer earns 4 marks and an incorrect one costs 1 mark, which is why attempting questions you cannot reason about is rarely worth it.

Is JEE Main a computer-based test?

Yes, the B.E./B.Tech paper is taken on a computer at a test centre. Practising on screen under time limits is the closest preparation.

How should I practise for JEE Main?

Work chapter by chapter first, then move to full-length timed mock tests, and review every test by chapter and by type of mistake.
